2012 has arrived with a very bad reputation, one that it seems determined to live up to. The tragedy of an Italian cruise ship driven onto the rocks by a Captain, whose actions are now being treated as criminal, is one that might provide an unwelcome metaphor for our present economic dilemmas.
It often feels as if our civilisation is being driven onto the rocks in a similar manner.
The Age of Uncertainty
We are living in an age of great uncertainty. All of the old understandings are rapidly disappearing amidst a maelstrom of profound change. We cry out for help, an explanation at least, the assurance that there is some sense of order that can help us avoid the crashing rocks.
Our pleas for clarity and respite are answered with more bad news, complex opinions and an endless stream of empty promises. The barren emptiness of our consumerist society is finally revealed as we stagger from one inevitable crisis to another.
This is an age of disasters out of which, like a phoenix rising, comes a revelation of Truth. Each of us is the captain of our own little ship. Nobody will save us if we do not first save ourselves.
A Gathering Place
We have to find people we can trust and places of refuge and dialogue where we can gather our thoughts and opinions towards survival. Survival is a strong word but I think many more would see it as an increasingly accurate one.
This website will endeavour to be a gathering place for those who seek opinion, information and ideas about how we can survive 2012 and then thrive beyond that.
Out of the uncertainty of 2012 we have to believe that together we can create a transition that carries us to something better, not worse. A new vision for a new world, and the people and communities to help deliver that hope where it counts most, on the ground, next door, where we live.
We will therefore continue to provide news, opinion and positive ideas that can act as a resource to promote discussion and increase understanding. Together and united can we save 2012 and transform it into a year of great hope and positive change?
Only if each one of us decides we are not helpless, only if we decide to peacefully break down the barriers of separation and work together as one.
Peace be with you.
